Welcome to the diary...

Can you believe it?

I'm so incredibly excited.

This is my diary of the making of the - as of yet untitled - 2024 album.

It's inspired by Ed O'Brien's diary of the making of Ok Computer, which is one of favourite albums by one of my favourite bands, Radiohead. I think it's safe to say that Ok Computer changed the course of popular music and is recognised as one of the greatest albums of all time.

And it's apt, because Hail To The Thief is one of the main reference albums in terms of tone and style for this album. (And of course everything I've ever produced I'm trying to make it sound a bit like Radiohead.)

Amazing shoulders to stand on, then…

A note to the reader, please read these entries as kind of a stream of consciousness. I've tried to edit as best I can as I’m going along, but with all the writing and recording and promotions around the album, the priority has been just to get out the entries vs spend the time editing.

There's also something quite beautiful about entries that are so time constrained they end up being very raw. I'm going to use my limitation to my advantage - after all, diaries are supposed to be part trains of thought, imbued with the emotion behind them.

That actually feels quite scary - almost like automatic writing, or journaling. I do that sometimes to get out any emotion that’s been stored in my body and needs to come out.

I never thought I’d be using that same technique here. I’m ready for the liberating experience.

So here goes….
